During the Vietnam War, Gary Larson was hit by shrapnel by a U.S. bomb as he worked as a tunnel rat (a person who flushed the Viet Cong out of the tunnel system) used in the war. On Memorial Day, surrounded by friends, family and an onslaught of newspapers and television reporters, Larson got an honorary Purple Heart for his injuries 40 years ago HP Rotarian Andrew Osckewicz and Gary Larson's wife set up quite a media event!
