FORT LEWIS, Nov 21 - Colonel Steve Townsend, long familiar with HPR members for his support of the club's efforts in supporting Military Families, handed over command and responsibilities to Colonel Funk in a large ceremony on the Gray Army Airfield on Fort Lewis today. COL Townsend has been with the 3-2 since December, 2004. From July 2006 to September 2007, he led the Brigade during counter-insurgency operations in Ninevah Province in northern Iraq, strike force operations in Baghdad and during offensive operations to eject Al Qaeda from Baqubah.

COL Townsend and his wife Melissa, have two sons, Tyler and Evan, both in college.

COL David Funk comes from Florida and is a 1986 graduate of the US Military Academy. He has served in posts around the world, and also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom III. COL Funk and his wife, Nellie, have two teenaged children who live with them at home. COL Funk will be attending and speaking to HPR in the very near future.
